Kenyan Number plates and their meaning.

Number plates in Kenya are issued by the Registrar of Motor vehicles and also stores all the records of vehicles including, civilian, G.K, parastatals, city/city council and UN bodies.

There are five different types of number plates in Kenya and that is civilian, GK, Parastatals, city county and diplomats.

1. Diplomatic numbers are given to the embassies in the order that they recognized Kenya’s independence. Since Germany was the first country to recognize Kenya’s independence, it was assigned number plate 1 CD.

They are red in color and for example, if you come across a number like 3 CD 14 K. The 3 means the country code ( in this case Ethiopia) CD means chattered Diplomat while 14 is given by the respective embassy depending on the rank of the staff, and obviously K stands for Kenya.

So next time you see a diplomatic car ahead of you, you will know who is infront of you.
